The 6th Annual High Beam Car Show – June 2, 2012 at the Utica United Methodist Church, 8650 Canal Rd. Sterling Heights MI 48314 – is a free public viewing of classic, modified, and modern cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
This year the feature show car will be Jim Zivkovich’s 1929 Desoto. The restored and modified DeSoto was displayed for the first time in this year’s Detroit Autorama show in February. Jim Zivkovich has owned the 1929 DeSoto for 50 years, but this year is the first that you can see the custom details that make it a classic “old School” road & show car. In addition, to having the 1929 DeSoto the featured car at the show, Jim Zivkovich has been the Show’s Good Humor Ice Cream man using his 1958 P-350 Ford Ice Cream truck – the ice cream is good.
The High Beam Car Show is a fun-oriented show for the neighborhood. It also allows for those participating and attending to donate to support Autism – through Autism Ask (www.ask.com ), and the Judson Center (www.judsoncenter.org/locations/autism-connections ) here in South East Michigan; and to support the Society of St. Andrew (www.endhunger.org ) as it provides food for the hungry at just 2 cents per serving.
The High Beam Car Show is open to the public from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided throughout the day with music by "Population Three" (www.population-3.com) – a local band that has been part of the show for the past 5 years. In addition to the specialty cars, a dealer sponsored new car display will be available for attendees to view. Lunch – from Jalopy Joe’s Sloppy Joes and Dogs – is available for a donation.
Participant vehicles will be chosen for awards by both the participants and those attending the show. Door prizes will be awarded to the participants throughout the day. Participants interested in showing their vehicle should call or email Gary Taylor 586-795-4630, acgrtaylor@comcast.net for details, fees, and forms. Dash plaques sponsored by Can Do Mechanical (candomech@aol.com) will be provided to the first 75 participants
